IN THE MAIL

"Where in the World is Glen Carroll?"

In Ireland!

I asked Glen what the locals, there, said when he told them he was from Waterville, New York. Their reply, "Oh, Really?"

And he added: "I was more pleased when I entered a pub in County Offlay. There were 28 people in the bar..... 20 of them were Carroll's!" (Thanks, Glen!)

Excerpts from the Waterville Garden Club's Newsletter, which was sent to me by Carol Aldridge:

"The Club will buy six packages of 6 ft. patriotic bunting and one package containing two 3 ft. sections to be used to decorate the Memorial Bandstand in the Park. The order was placed at Morgan's Hardware on Wednesday.

"Sharon Bennett, Club Treasurer, received a letter from Waterville Central School regarding payment for our yearly scholarship to a graduating senior. This year the club is giving $250. Payment was approved by a vote of members present.

"The plant sale date of May 19th is still tentative. I contacted the Methodist Church and am still waiting to hear back from them. Betty Ann Zyla is making raffle tickets for the sale. We have three items, a chair planter, bird cage and small table, which we will offer chances on. We hope to have the tickets available for sale prior to the plant sale.

"At our May 1st meeting, sign- up sheets will be available for workers at the plant sale. We will also have to talk about the planting of the flower barrels and planters for downtown.

"Saturday of May 5th at 9:00 is the date/time of our annual visit to Alcott’s greenhouse.

"Bonnie Dobmeier has set up a trip for our June meeting. At 6:00 on June 5th, we will travel to Freedom Farm’s greenhouse in Sherrill." (Thanks, Carol, for sending me the letter and "Thank You!" to all of the Garden Club members who do so much to make Waterville look so nice every Summer!)
