It's Garbage Day.

32 degrees on the nose at 5:30 a.m.

YNN's Weather Forecast: "Today will be mainly dry outside of a couple spotty rain or snow showers south of Lake Ontario this morning.. Temperatures will still be on the chilly side with highs in the upper 30s and low 40s.

Tuesday is shaping up to be rather pleasant (but chilly) as high pressure builds overhead allowing for sun, a few clouds and dry weather with highs in the low to mid 40s. Closer to midweek we’ll have to keep a close eye on a storm system working up the east coast which could provide a few showers Wednesday night into Thursday along/east of I-81.

While temperatures through much of the week are expected to top out in the 40s, there may be a milder air mass arriving by next weekend with highs in the 50s to near 60 degrees."

IN THE MAIL

Jody Hildreth has added another waterfall to his collection - this one is somewhere in the Baker State Forest / the Brookfield Horse Trail System - and he sent these two beautiful pictures, taken on Saturday,  for us to enjoy.

Thank you, Jody!

When I went out with my camera, yesterday afternoon, it was just "spitting" a little snow.

There wasn't enough to frost the sumac on Madison Street ........

.... but some of the Gallaghers' cows, next to Osborn Avenue,  were looking quite miserable!

Looking south, toward Craigfoot Hill, I could see more snow, so I headed down Beaver Creek Road.

I had forgotten how much I like seeing snow on trees!

Bailey Lake Road.

On Tubbs Road ........

......... an old maple tree that has probably seen more than a hundred winters.

New York City Relief

MaryBeth and Bob VanDenbergh's daughter, Sarah, has been volunteering and is heart sick with the simple things that are needed. She wrote: "With a northeastern on the way this week people in the disaster zones really need our help.  I spent the day out in the Rockaways. Today they got shipments of fresh meals and water but are still in desperate need of supplies - as I'm sure are other areas too. They need flashlights, batteries, heat pads, blankets, coats, socks, diapers, formula, and wipes. These were the most common requests I got today. Please consider donating, going out to one of the sites, or going to a food kitchen to help prepare meals. I can promise you that everyone you encounter will.be extremely grateful."

Socks are greatly needed. You can purchase socks wholesale here or via phone 800-597-3886 and send them to NYC Relief. You can also purchase much-needed hygiene kits for New York Relief here (look for Relief Kit #1 and Relief Kit #2). Socks and/or kits can be shipped to: New York City Relief/295 Walnut Street/Elizabeth, NJ 07201.

*******

Because the socks and kits are sold in bulk, wholesale lots, they are more expensive than single units but would be a grand donation from your family, group of friends or organization!

I will be collecting more lists of items and where to get them as well as how to have them shipped directly to New York.

I just found this on WKTV: "If you would like to donate to Hurricane Sandy recovery, The Other Side in Utica will be open every day this week for drop-offs. Their hours are 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

The type of items needed is changing as well. The focus is less on clothes and more on items like cleaning supplies, batteries, baby items, baby food, formula and diapers. There iss also a need for socks and underwear.

The Other Side is located across from the Uptown Theater on Genesee Street in Utica."
