It's Garbage Day

54 degrees and overcast at 6:30

The Weather Forecast from YNN: "Today will be warm and a bit muggy with sunshine blending with clouds.  While most will remain dry, an isolated shower or thundershower can’t be ruled out this afternoon and evening.  Highs will be well into the 70s.  Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a better chance for showers and thunderstorms.  Lows will only be in the low to mid 60s.

A cold front will gradually drop through the region tomorrow with scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially through early afternoon.  Skies may begin to clear late in the day.  Highs will remain in the 70s.

High pressure will then build in for a slightly cooler but overall pleasant upcoming weekend.  The only possible blemish may be early Saturday with the risk for a lingering shower.  Otherwise both days will feature a good amount of sun with highs in the 60s to around 70. "

Yesterday was no brighter than Tuesday, but at least clouds had lifted and I could see where I was:

In Hanover!

In the Village, the ornamental Crab Apple trees at the eastern end of the Park are in full bloom ......

............ and, at Park Place, the village DPW had been weeding and mulching the plantings leading to and around the Memorial Bandstand.

At Merri-Rose, on W. Main Street, Diane has an inviting Summery display in front of the Flower Shop.

The Gerhardts' have a beautiful hanging planter on their front porch.

Outside the village .......

..............  this is the first time that I've seen "Papa Goose" with Mama.

Today's Search

I think it's time to look for patches of swirling Wood Betony .......

................. and little blue "Cuckoo Flower" along the banks of  Oriskany Creek between Oriskany Falls and Solsville.

IN THE MAIL

From photographer Jody Hildreth, who is also Library Media Specialist at Sauquoit Valley Elementary School:

"I did an interesting photo shoot at school.  Our third graders are raising Painted Lady Butterflies in their classrooms, and this week their caterpillars are turning in to the chrysalis.  I set a webcam up on one caterpillar after it attached itself to the top of a cardboard box.  The camera was programmed to take one picture every second and ran all night long.  The caterpillar changed at 1:00 am.  (During the night, the camera took over 75,000 pictures!).  I stitched only the pictures of the "action" and made a video.  You can view this video at the following website: http://www.kidwings.com/videos/Final.wmv    I am hoping to capture a butterfly emerging from the chrysalis in a couple weeks. "

(Thanks loads for that, Jody!  It's an amazing bit of film - and editing!
Cautionary note to blog readers: please note that this film is copyrighted and shouldn't be passed around willy-nilly unless you have Jody's permission!)

FOR THE RECORD

I apologize for the irregularities in type-size in this post:  the "new" Blogspot  form and I are not getting along very well!  I'll tinker more with this layout later in the day.
