Today is D-Day

"We must work to sustain the D-Day Memory."
from the Utica Observer-Dispatch

"On June 6, 1944, 156,000 allied troops crossed the English Channel and landed on the beaches of northern France where they began a drive through Europe that would bring Adolf Hitler and his Third Reich to its knees. They came ashore on beaches called Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword, where the brutal assault resulted in 10,000 Allied casualties — 6,600 of them Americans. An estimated 2,500 Allied troops died."
