Here & There

 Sidewalk showrooms ..........

.............. on West Main Street.

It appears that there will be new siding on the first house North of the Creek on Babbott Avenue.
( I hope that the "carpenter gothic" trim will be saved!)

This house on Fuess-Cleary Road was built by E. E. Barton, probably before 1852.  For many years it was the residence of the Misses Margaret and Ella Cleary. In the past year or so it has undergone a wonderful "make-over" and is now the residence of the Stephen Cleary family.

I missed it!

The Wisteria hanging on the fence next to the E.Bacon Street Entrance to the St. Bernard's Church parking lot is, obviously, past its prime.  It must have been perfect, last week.

This 1950 photograph gives an idea of the number of wild orchids - "pink Lady Slippers" - that grew in abundance down in Nine Mile and other swamps and the abandon with which they were picked.

Now, sixty years later, I feel fortunate to have found just one!

(No: I didn't pick it!)

I have, however, been invited to visit a large wild orchid habitat  near Remsen quite early tomorrow, and that means that there probably will NOT be another blog post until Thursday morning.

Blog Readers' Queries

1.  "What is the 'Summer Camp' at the far southern end of Bailey Lake Road?"

2. When is a decent / civilized hour to start mowing lawns (with power mowers) on Sunday morning?  OR:  "Isn't 8 o'clock too early to start mowing on Sunday mornings?"

Your answers or opinions will be appreciated.

Have a good day, everyone!
