It isn't even officially Summer, yet, but already the season seems to be going by too fast!

Yellow flag - densely packed into wet ditches.

The Multiflora Rose decorates hedgerows and dry pastures with pretty little blossoms and miserably painful thorns for which it is occasionally referred to as the "Barbed Wire Rose"

Full "Strawberry Moon" early Monday morning

Full Strawberry Moon – June This name was universal to every Algonquin tribe. However, in Europe they called it the Rose Moon. Also because the relatively short season for harvesting strawberries comes each year during the month of June . . . so the full Moon that occurs during that month was christened for the strawberry!  From the Farmers Almanac .

A transit of Venus occurs when Venus passes directly between the sun and earth.  This alignment is rare, coming in pairs that are eight years apart but separated by over a century.

The most recent transit of Venus occurred in 2004.  After the June 2012 transit of Venus (the last one in your lifetime), the next such alignment occurs in 2117.

Observatory Update from Jeff Reynolds

"Major hurdle overcome at the WPL observatory Thursday night.  The twin roller plate apparatus was hoisted aloft and set on its rails.  Quite heavy, but load was lightened by participation of the six Rotarians pictured plus Deb Conway, Stan Sambora and Doug Plourde (camera shy) and one Optimist!   Structure is now ready to enter topping off phase  --  trusses and roof, that will be handled by Mike Tower and crew next week."
