IN THE MAIL

John Ogden identified the "mystery plant" as
Solanum Carolinese or, locally,  "Horse Nettle."

I'm glad I didn't decide to pick any!

(Thanks, John!)

Waterville Public Library Director Jeff Reynolds sent these pictures, taken on Thursday evening when members of the Waterville Rotary Club and the Mohawk Valley Astronomical Society turned out in force to paint the new observatory.

That's Bill Getman.

When the roof is "open," the observatory can barely be seen in the dark.
No: that's not a light on top of the cupola - Jeff managed to position himself so that the full "Blue Moon" - the second full moon of the month -  appeared to be perched right there!

This is the color of the paint (really a stain) in daylight.

The digging is for a new stretch of sidewalk and, also, some additional electrical outlets.
