MONDAY MORNING, SECOND TRY.

(And I SHALL hit "save" really, really often AND hope that whatever internet or Blogosphere gremlin that "ate" the earlier post stays far, far away!)

It's Garbage Day

The WKTV Weather Forecast: "High pressure returns to the area today, kicking out a storm system that brought us clouds and showers over the weekend.  A lingering trough in place may kick off a brief shower north of the valley today.  Highs near 80.  Partly cloudy skies tonight with lows in the upper 50s.

A new cold front will approach CNY late Tuesday. It appears the front will move through during the evening hours of Tuesday with scattered showers and storms accompanying it.

In the wake of the cold front on Wednesday, expect a good deal of leftover cloud coverage with only peeks of sunshine alongside a few showers."

Yankee Greats Visit Harding Nursing Home

from Don Brown I

Lenny Farber, a resident at Hardings, got some batting tips from well-known Yankee lookalikes  Mickey Mantle (a.k.a. Don Brown, of Waterville) and Babe Ruth (Buster Gardner of Oberlin, Ohio) when both "pros" were in Waterville last week.

I wasn't in town on Saturday, but I understand that the major "happenings" at the Waterville Historical Society and the Ruth Allen Memorial Walk/Run and Marshall Day activities in Deansboro all met their sponsors' expectations.

A Curiosity.

Events in both Waterville and Deansboro featured Chicken Barbeques and on Sunday the Paris Hill Fire Department held its own annual Chicken BBQ. A rough estimate - based on quick phone calls and/or Email queries -  indicates that between the three events the better part of one thousand BBQ Chicken Dinners were sold!

Returning to Waterville at around 6:00 Saturday evening, I was surprised to see (and hear) a band setting up and a large crowd gathering in the Park. Cars were parked on both sides of Madison Street and Park Place, so finding a spot to take a really good picture wasn't possible.

I learned later that it was the Mark Bolos Band & the SouthGate Ministries Worship Team. There were also games to play, face painting, free hotdogs and drinks and ice cream donated by Roc Star and a love offering was  taken for the Children's home in Peru.

On Sunday I went for a long ride hoping to find a view like this, which was next to Route 46, six years ago.

No sunflower fields, but I went back toward Hamilton to check out the hops in the new six-acre field at the Mosher Farms.

Not a sign of a vine.

The vines at the Forward Farm on Water Street, however, were showing better growth.

(It is my understanding that no hop grower plans on picking hops from first year vines: next year they should yield a full crop.)

You don't need to have me tell you where these pictures were taken!

THIS IS THE WEEK!

These scarlet runner beans next to the doorway at the old Bouckville Mill were too pretty to NOT stop and take a picture.

I have a "thing" for striped fields and tend to take so many pictures of them that I often forget where they are!

FOR THE RECORD

Having been working at this again, for some time, and not having had another complete disaster, I'm going to hit "Publish" and hope that it works!

Have a good day everyone!
