It's Recyclables Day

51 degrees at 5:30

The WKTV Weather Forecast:  "High pressure builds in for the remainder of the week.  Clear and pleasantly cool weather today with highs in the lower 70s.  Eventually, a warmup is expected again by Thursday and Friday.
We're continuing to follow Hurricane Isaac as it makes landfall in Louisiana.  At this point, it doesn't look to affect our weather until late Sunday or Monday, if at all.  By that point, only some showers and thunderstorms will be possible.  There is also the chance that most of the rain stays to the south, across the Mid Atlantic.  We'll keep you posted."

AN APOLOGY
from the blogger:
my "relationship" with  Blogspot.com is deteriorating, this morning, and the various fonts and type sizes that you see on the blog are NOT what I've asked Blogspot to produce.

Miss Paige Elizabeth Padula

Paige Elizabeth Padula participated in the 2012 New York National American Miss State Pageant held 8/23-8/25. The Hyatt Regency Hotel in Rochester, NY was the site of this event now celebrating its 10th anniversary.  Hundreds of young ladies made the trip to represent their hometown competing in one of five age categories. Paige was one of 122 contestants participating in the pre-teen division which is open to 10-12 year olds. While making new friendships, contestants have the opportunity to enter many optional segments such as talent, spokesmodel, photogenic, casual wear, actress and art contest. The finale, held in the ballroom, begins with a production number with all the state finalists performing a dance routine. After contestants have donned their formal wear awards were announced. Family and friends were thrilled to hear Paige’s name announced for: Miss Personality 1st runner up (voted on by fellow contestants), Volunteer Service 1st runner up, Most Promising Model 1st runner up, Casual Wear Modeling 1st runner up and Outstanding Program Participation. This was Paige’s first experience in a pageant and returned home with many wonderful memories.  Paige is ten years old and will be entering the sixth grade this September.

Sent with great pride by Bonnie and Rocco Padula.

Here & There

It had rained Monday night and was sprinkling Tuesday morning - just enough to keep the dust down! - so the DPW had the street sweeper out.

By mid-morning the Park was being mown and the bunting had been hung on the Bandstand.

Back at the Library, three Bean Pickers were waiting to start the day. A far cry from the way beans used to be harvested!

The beans that are being harvested, now, are Green Beans - or "snap" beans - and you know what those look like.
Soy Beans look like this:

They won't be harvested for several weeks.

If ever you hear that the blogger has gone off the road and into a ditch, you'll know what she was doing: looking at wildflowers!

Purple Loosestrife and goldenrod beside Sanger Hill Road.

"Phragmites Communis" along Route 12

"Turtlehead," next to Austin Road near Lumbard Road.

Right across the road from the Turtlehead, a large clump of something that I can't identify.
It looks familiar to me. The blossoms resemble those of various Nightshades, but ..... can someone tell me what it is?

FOR THE RECORD
