********************************************

Here we go!

Welcome to Year #7 of

"At Home in the Huddle."

Who would have thought it would last this long?
(I certainly didn't!)

*************************

It's Garbage Day.

64 degrees and sunny at 6:30

The Weather Forecast from YNN: "The threat for a isolated shower or thunderstorm continues (Sunday p.m.) with highs in the low and mid 80s. Most areas will remain dry to finish the weekend and even into Monday with plenty of sun, warmth and more humidity.

Highs on Monday will be in the upper 80s with some spots flirting with 90!

A slow moving cold front will bring unsettled weather back to the area on Tuesday and Wednesday with good chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms."

Last week:  clouds and rain!

Despite soggy weather, there are Fresh Strawberries
at the Landis Farm!

Movie MatinĂ©e

Right next to the Library there's been lots of activity!

Mike Tower and his crew Topping Out!

Powered by electric motor, the roof, which will rest over the telescope room (part with green paneling) when the telescopes are not in use, slides back to the open portion of the structure giving astronomers a clear view of the sky above.

Standing right next to the structure, it looks large enough to be a small house ......

.... but from the driveway, it could easily be mistaken for a tool shed.  No one would ever guess what it will hold!

The very interesting and informative program for the evening was presented by Chobani Yogurt Company representative Donald Brown II of Waterville.   He is pictured with his parents, Sharon and Optimist member Donald Brown I.

June is Brothertown Optimist Volunteer month. This year the Oriskany Falls Volunteer Fire Department was honored. Pictured are Brothertown Optimist Volunteer Committee Chairman David O’Brien with Oriskany Falls Volunteer Fire Department President Brian Dapson and Assistant Fire Chief Travis Johnson.

Two new members were inducted at the meeting. Pictured are new members Roger Nichols and Glen Carroll with President Jim Morgan.

The Youth of the Month for June is Waterville senior class member Cheyenne Beach daughter of Mrs. Melissa Carey. Cheyenne is a high honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society. She is presently a participant in the Advance Placement Program in Chemistry and English Literature at Waterville. She is also an active participant in Music and Athletic Department activities. She will be traveling to Argentina in September for volunteer work on an organic farm after which she will move on to the college level with a major in Natural Resource Management.

MARSHALL DAY PLANS ANNOUNCED

The Parks & Rec Committee for the Town of Marshall, in conjunction with the Ruth Allen Run & Walk on August 11, 2012 from 10-2  for Marshall Day are planning a 80th Reunion of the Deans Elementary School. Anyone who went to the school from 1932 to 1965 for grades K-6 are invited to attend. We would like to get the word out and are asking people to pass it along. There will be displays and a tour of the building (now the Marshall Town Hall) on that day from 10-2.

Contact people for this reunion are Bill Marris at 841-8477 or Sue McConnell 841-8238. If you have anything to contribute for the displays, pictures, articles, etc., please contact either Sue or Bill.

FOR THE RECORD

There were thirty cheerful old-timers and one equally enthusiastic youngster (that's anyone less than sixty-five) at the first 2012 gathering of "Once Upon a Time in Waterville," last Friday.  It always amazes me that we can visit a topic over and over again, and whether it be about a particular street or special person, new never-before-told tidbits of trivia always come out, and the more there are the more amusing they become. I believe that I was not the only one present who spent the entire hour-and-a-half laughing!

Many people ask whether or not these story-telling sessions are being recorded, for History's Sake:  the answer is "No!" - for several reasons having to do both with technology and discretion.

It is possible that some of the tales will be presented in book form, someday, but - for the time being - the only way you're going to learn all of this local history (and enjoy the ambient humor and good cheer!)  is to be right in the room where it's all happening!

The next gathering will take place on Friday, June 22nd at 1:30 at the Waterville Public Library.  There are chairs for about ten more people, I think!
