A nice note from Gil Condon, commenting on yesterday's blog post: "Neat article on Scott Bancroft. An old Waterville guy like me wonders who his grandfather was? I played ball with Myron and Louie. I think both were pitchers."

Here & There

Planters and window boxes at the Pizzeria on W. Main Street are filled with bright flowers.

Now in bloom in hardwoods and on gravelly banks: "Bloodroot."

The root contains an orange-red juice that was long used by the Native Americans as a dye for their bodies and clothes and has been used successfully by American and French dyers.

Art White has access to more sorts and models of earth-moving machinery to play with than most people, but he has been using a tidy little "excavator" to clean out an overgrown hedgerow next to the Hop Yard at the Waterville Public Library.

They're back! Although difficult to see in this picture, a pair of Canada Geese have once again set up housekeeping on the small pond just beyond Jack Prior's home on Madison Street.

Two by Two - our other "Snowbirds" are returning.
