The WKTV Weather Forecast: "Morning clouds on Monday lead to mostly sunny skies by the afternoon with slightly warmer temperatures, highs in the low 50s. Sunshine continues into Tuesday before some light rain showers on Wednesday. Highs remain in the 50s throughout most of the week, with a bit of a warmup by next weekend."

I don't know who Tom had in mind when he posted this greeting on the Car Wash, but it was such a chilly, rainy day that it might very well have applied to the dozen or so fishermen that I saw along the banks of Big Creek and the Oriskany.

Neither of these two fellows at the Hinman Memorial Fishing access site in Oriskany Falls looked as if they were having any fun!

Flowers bloom in the front windows of The Waterville Times, on East Main Street, and ......

........... there are a lot of Easter decorations on the lawn and shrubbery of the gray apartment house, right across the road.

Asahel Grant

1807 - 1844

In my mail, a nice letter from Gordon Taylor, author of "Fever and Thirst," a biography of Asahel Grant, letting me know that the office of American Consulate in Erbil, Iraq, has been named Grant House "in honor of Dr. Asahel Grant (1807-1844) and Judith Campbell Grant (1814-1839). Pastors, healers and scholars, the Grants sailed from Boston harbor in May 1835 and became the first Americans into what is now Dohuk province, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Through their work, they befriended people of all faiths and all cultures in the lands between Mosul, Urmiah and Hakkari. Laid to eternal rest in St. Thomas Church in Mosul, beside their two infant daughters, the Grants left a living legacy: the American nation’s friendship to the people of this land." (Thanks, Gordon, and congratulations!)
