It's Garbage Day
25 degrees and starry clear at 5:15.

The YNN Weather Forecast:  Pleasant Weather Continues Through Mid-Week

"With Skies remaining clear and winds staying light, expect a chilly start Monday morning. Monday will once again feature a wealth of sun and slightly above average temperatures.

High pressure will keep things uneventful through Thanksgiving. In fact Thanksgiving looks to be the nicest day over the foreseeable future. Our next shot for showers will come Friday via a potent cold front."

IN THE MAIL

"First Light"

From Jeff Reynolds, Library Director:  "It was a jolly mob scene;  lost count, easily 100 plus including many Watervillians.  Queued up at main scope like Disneyland!  Laser show guided tour of the sky out in the garden. Big night."

From Margaret Bornick, MVAS member who, along with her husband, Ron, was one of the first to discover the perfect site, on our Library grounds, for the new Observatory. "The common room was packed. Estimates range between 70 - 80 people (including children). After the program, they all lined up patiently, waiting to view Jupiter with the Seif Telescope. We consider the evening a great success."

From Jody Hildreth, these photographs:

The sky could not have been clearer nor the stars brighter.

Visitors discovering a new view of  Jupiter and the Galilean Moons.

(This photograph gives you an idea of the size of this magnificent telescope!)

(Thank you, Jody!)

I had every intention of attending the "First Light" celebration, but when I went out my back door and the motion-sensor lights turned on, I saw something that made me change my mind!

I did, however, get up at 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning, after "Elvira" had gone to bed,  and at least got to enjoy the spectacular display of stars and meteors right above my own back yard.
